The Story of my Spine

Yep, that's me in 1995...just a few days before going under the knife. I had a bad case of scoliosis that started to develop when I was 14, but really started to worsen after a car accident when I was 16. Since they screened only women in school and not men, it had gone just about undetected until then. I started with chiropractic care at 16 and continued weekly visits for 2 years. The result was a curve that went from 20° to over 65°. Not to say that chiropractic care is not helpful...my back always felt good... but I have since not been able to find proof that they can do what they claim they can do for scoliosis. In 1995 I turned to an orthopedic surgeon and then to a spinal specialist. The solution they proposed frightened me near death...putting rods in my back and fusing the bones together. It sounded more like a torture, but I didn't want to see the spine get any worse...so I went for it. I have been extremely happy with the results. The curve in my back is now down to 15° and hardly noticeable.
